Doctor in Belo buttock surgery to appear at NBI
MANILA, Philippines - A former doctor of the Belo Medical Group (BMG) who performed buttock augmentation surgery on a businesswoman will appear at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) office at 3 p.m. today to shed light on her complaint that the buttock implant caused an infection that nearly killed her.
Dr. Francis Decangchon was supposed to appear before the NBI investigating team last Wednesday, but his lawyer asked for a deferment.
Ross Bautista, executive officer of the NBI Office of the Deputy Director for Intelligence Services (DDIS), said they expect Decangchon to show his specific designation during his tenure with the BMG as well as his qualification to perform cosmetic surgery.
Bautitsta said they will ask Decangchon about the procedure done on Josefina Norcio, who filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries against BMG for the alleged botch butt augmentation surgery done on her in 2003 and 2005 at the BMG clinic.
Celebrity doctor Dra. Vicki Belo, owner of the BMG, is expected to be subpoenaed in the final stages of the investigation.
Norcio claimed she initially consulted Belo before her butt operation and that Belo failed to inform her of the possible side effects of the procedure.
The NBI earlier conducted its own chemical analysis on the “hydrogel” buttock implants on Norcio, who is confined at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.
The NBI has yet to come out with its findings. – Sandy Araneta
