MANILA, Philippines - The National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) is working with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to draw up guidelines to promote police officers involved in successful operations against illegal drugs.
Metro police director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales pointed out that police officers risk their lives during raids on shabu laboratories and warehouses.
“However, when it comes to promotions, they were given the runaround due to technicalities,” he said, noting that he wanted to come to an agreement with PDEA chief Dionisio Santiago on the guidelines.
Rosales said the rewards given to informants are currently under review by the Dangerous Drugs Board.
“We should try as a tack promoting our people” who perform well in the war against illegal drugs,” he said in an interview.
In Metro Manila, Rosales said he has launched a competition among the NCRPO’s five police districts in the conduct of raids on illegal drugs.
Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Lino Calingasan arrested three people last week. One of the suspects, Ombay Dimal Mama, is among Pasig City’s most wanted drug suspects.
Calinisan said Mama admitted the supply of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu is becoming scarce and they are mixing other materials with the shabu crystals.
“Because of the scarce supply of illegal drugs, Mama’s clients are buying adulterated shabu for them to make more profits,” Calingasan said. – Non Alquitran
