DPWH: Tandang Sora-Luzon Avenue flyover done by yearend

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured the public yesterday that the P520-million Tandang Sora-Luzon Avenue flyover would be completed before the end of the year.

Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. asked the public to bear with the traffic jams in the area.

“Once the project is completed, it will be beneficial to all motorists and businessmen in the area,” DPWH Undersecretary for Luzon operations Romeo Momo said.

Motorists, especially those coming from Katipunan Avenue, would no longer use U-turns slots in Commonwealth Avenue to go to Luzon Avenue as the flyover directly connects both ways, the DPWH said.

Momo said the 500-meter flyover would directly connect Tandang Sora Avenue (Old Balara side) to Luzon Avenue. It has two lanes per direction.

He added that the structure also has access or service roads on both sides for vehicles coming from and going to Commonwealth Avenue and C-5 and vice versa.

Engineer Edilberto Tayao, DPWH-National Capital Region director, said the construction of the Tandang Sora-Luzon Avenue flyover is part of the President Carlos P. Garcia Avenue (C-5) extension project that would connect the North Luzon Expressway and the South Luzon Expressway.

“The project is part of President Carlos P. Garcia Avenue (C-5) extension project being undertaken by the DPWH in line with the instructions of President Arroyo to interconnect the two expressways and eventually to the Manila-Cavite Coastal Road in Las Piñas City via C-5,” he said.

Tayao said the construction of the infrastructure, started last week, is one of the vital links in the 41-kilometer North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway flagship project.
