MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration barred an Australian national from entering the country after the man’s Filipina wife accused him of abusing her.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said he ordered Candy Francis Mark Pillay blacklisted last May 13 “so he could be prevented from coming here and victimizing other Filipinas.”
The order was in response to a requested made by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Domingo Lucenario Jr.
Pillay’s wife claimed he matreated her and did not tell her he was convicted for rape and attempted rape some 17 years ago.
DFA records showed Pillay was convicted for one count of rape and two counts of attempted rape in Melbourne in 1992, for which he served a three-year jail term.
The DFA also reportedly issued a circular directing all Philippine posts abroad not to issue a visa to Pillay. – Evelyn Macairan
