Woman gunned down on Good Friday

MANILA, Philippines - A woman died of multiple gunshot wounds when waylaid by unidentified gunmen early morning of Good Friday in Malabon City.

Police said Michelle Cervito, 29, a resident of Barangay Longos in Malabon, died of bullet wounds in the head and body while being rushed for treatment at the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon.

Danilo Rivera, the victim’s live-in partner, told the police that he was awakened by successive gunshots in front of their house at around 1 a.m. He went out to check and was startled upon seeing the victim sprawled on the pavement and bleeding. Rivera brought Cervito to the city hospital but Dr. Aster Sagun, the attending physician, declared the victim dead on arrival due to multiple bullet wounds in the head and body.

Senior Police Officer 1 Bobby Mario Egera said the police were still trying to identify the suspects and their motive in Cervito’s slay.

Further, on the early morning of Maunday Thursday, at least three men in a tricycle shot Nobre Calles, 22, and Ryan Taruc, 18, in Tala, Caloocan City North. The victims were reportedly walking home on Barracks II in Barangay 186, Tala when a speeding tricycle approached them from behind and were fired upon by its occupants.

The victims were hit in their backs and heads and were initially brought to Rodriguez Memorial Hospital but were later transferred to Far Eastern University Hospital in Quezon City due to their unstable condition. The suspects remained at large.   – Pete Laude
