Tension grips Parañaque demolition
MANILA, Philippines - An operation to demolish a shantytown in Barangay San Antonio Valley 1 in Parañaque City nearly turned violent yesterday.
Police reports said residents of the Wellington Compound pelted the demolition team with rocks and bottles when the crew started dismantling their houses at around 10 a.m.
The team, led by Sheriff Reynaldo Nepomuceno, carried out the demolition to comply with an order issued by Judge Donato de Castro of the Parañaque City Regional Trial Court Branch 77.
The city police intervened to stop residents from attacking the demolition crew. Police said there was no one reported injured or arrested during the demolition, which ended at 5 p.m. – Mike Frialde
