DPWH names slain executive's replacement

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways named yesterday Undersecretary Romeo Momo to replace Undersecretary Ramon Aquino, who died on March 19 several days after he was ambushed as he was leaving the DPWH compound in Port Area, Manila.

The DPWH said Momo would have to leave his post as undersecretary for Mindanao as he assumes Aquino’s roles as undersecretary for Luzon and Metro Manila and as chief of staff of DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr.

Undersecretary for Support Services Bashir Rasuman will assume the post vacated by Momo, while Assistant Secretary for Support Services Jaime Pacanan will temporarily replace Rasuman.

Pacanan also leads an internal investigation into an alleged collusion between contractors and officials in the first phase of the National Roads Improvement and Management Program.

Assistant Secretary for Technical Services Raul Asis will handle the World Bank projects, which were previously managed by Momo. – Evelyn Macairan
