MANILA, Philippines - Parañaque City police officers arrested yesterday a woman and her live-in partner for maltreating the woman’s six-year-old son.
Maria Ostinado, 28, and Allan de la Cruz, 27, of Clinicville in Barangay BF Homes, entrusted the boy to a neighbor, who sought police assistance upon seeing burn marks on the boy’s body.
“The boy has many scars. He also has burn marks, possibly from being scalded by boiling water. It also appears he was being maltreated for quite some time,” Senior Inspector Michael Chavez said.
Ostinado admitted having poured boiling water on her son last March 16. Chavez said police learned Ostinado’s husband is an inmate at the New Bilibid Prisons.
Charges of child abuse are being raided against Ostinado and De la Cruz while the boy was transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Mike Frialde
