1 killed, 3 hurt in Quezon City shooting spree
MANILA, Philippines - Two unidentified men killed one person and seriously injured three others during a shooting spree in Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City yesterday morning.
Police said Eutiquio Acibes Jr., 24, died when a bullet went through his skull, while his supposed companion, construction worker Ronald Basea, 27, was shot in the neck and is undergoing treatment at the Far Eastern University Hospital.
George Gonzales, 54, and Guya Arimpha, 59, both of North Fairview, suffered gunshot wounds in the back and are undergoing treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Police Officer 3 Michael Cabrera of the Fairview police Station said he received a telephone call from a security guard, who said a shooting spree occurred at the corner of Adrian and Baker streets at around 9:30 a.m. in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood.
Cabrera said the police station dispatched a mobile patrol vehicle manned by PO3s Allan Rimolano, Sandy Albong, Romeo Barbasa, and Gerald Alibin to the scene.
Upon conducting an initial ocular investigation of the crime scene, police said Acibes died almost instantly after being shot by two still unidentified gunmen.
“The other two who sustained gunshot wounds in the back appear to be mere victims or collateral damage,” Cabrera told The STAR in an interview.
He said homicide probers from the QCPD - Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) are having a difficult time gathering information from residents who may have witnessed the shooting but refuse to talk.
