Caloocan cop shot dead by hired killers

MANILA, Philippines - Two men shot dead a police officer in front of his house in Caloocan City early morning yesterday.

Investigation showed that Senior Police Officer 1 Wilson Reyes, officer-in-charge of the city police Sub-station 4 investigation unit in Urduja, was eating breakfast with his children when two unidentified men came to his house at around 7:45 a.m.

Reyes went outside to greet the two men. As he was talking to one of the suspects, the other one simply walked behind him and shot Reyes with a .45 caliber pistol in the head, killing him instantly. The gunmen then walked away from the crime scene.

Reyes’ fellow officer, who requested not to be named, said the suspects could be “professional killers.”

“The way the suspects acted, they could be professional hired guns,” the police officer said. He also said that based on witness accounts, Reyes could really be a “liquidation target” because the gunmen personally went to his house to eliminate him.

He described Reyes as a “jolly police officer” and could not think of a reason why he would be killed “except that it could be in relation to his work as investigator.” – Pete Laude
