GMA donates P10 million to Manila Police District
MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo donated P10 million to the Manila Police District yesterday after witnessing the MPD’s technological innovations in fighting criminality and maintaining peace and order in the city.
The MPD has installed wireless audio transceivers and close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in crime-prone areas in the city.
Through wireless transceivers, Mrs. Arroyo, who was in the Tactical Operations Center at the MPD headquarters in Ermita, talked with Sta. Cruz police station chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, who was then supervising his policemen at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo.
Visitors at the Tactical Operations Center, which included Cabinet officials, local politicians and businessmen, applauded as they viewed Sapitula and his men saluting when MPD director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales told them that the President was watching them through the television monitor.
“The President’s donation shall finance the installation of more close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on critical intersections and crime prone areas in Manila,” Rosales said. – Nestor Etolle
