An apparently tired security dog triggered a bomb scare at a hotel in Makati City yesterday after it sat down near a gift-wrapped box abandoned at the hotel’s delivery bay.
Makati City Police chief Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said the security guard was alarmed and asked for police assistance when the dog suddenly sat down, which signified to its handler that the box contained an explosive. The Makati police immediately dispatched its bomb disposal personnel, who used a water cannon to “disrupt” the package, which contained a notebook and a pen.
“The package appeared to be a gift for a hotel guest that was left behind. The hotel’s security guards were alarmed when the dog sat down. Apparently the dog was just tired,” Cruz said. – Mike Frialde
