Bystander shot by guard out to kill boss

-

A bystander was seriously wounded when he was accidentally shot by a security guard who was reportedly out to seek revenge against his employer at a bus terminal in Muntinlupa City Wednesday night.

SPO1 Rodel Torres identified the victim as Michael Gutierrez, 23, employee.

Torres said the incident occurred at around 8:20 p.m. in the South Station Terminal in Alabang. Initial investigation showed the victim was waiting for a jeepney ride when the suspect, Jefferson Andam, shot at Ma. Rosario Bautista, operations manager of Doomstar Security Agency.

Police said Andam previously had an argument with Bautista regarding work issues. Andam is assigned at the terminal.

Andam escaped after the incident while Gutierrez was brought to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment by another security guard.

Torres said they already launched a manhunt against the suspect. – Rhodina Villanueva

Caloocan residents told to recycle wastes

Mayor Enrico Echiverri yesterday urged residents to recycle and practice proper waste disposal as he wants to develop Caloocan to become Metro Manila’s first “zero-waste city” by the end of the year.

The city’s Environmental Sanitation Services was primarily tasked to monitor the processing and storage of solid wastes in 179 material recovery facilities in the city and promote a “garbage-free” lifestyle for the residents by going house-to-house with its informative and educational waste management campaign.

Echiverri said the city government was obliged to explore alternative waste management options due to the eventual closure of dumpsites outside Metro Manila and the dramatic increases in waste disposal fees.

Alfonso Sta. Maria, Environmental Sanitation Services chief, said the ESS is already implementing a segregated waste door-to-door collection in the four pilot barangays. – Jerry Botial, Pete Laude

The Muntinlupa City government recently filed a total of 82 cases against persons reportedly involved in drug trafficking and possession of illegal drugs in the city.

Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Office officer-in-charge Dr. Raquel Tolentino said of the 82 cases, 48 were charged with illegal possession of either methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) or marijuana.

Twenty-one were charged with the sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution and transportation of illegal drugs.

Other suspects were charged with possessing equipment, instrument, apparatus and other paraphernalia for dangerous drugs; illegal drug use; or conspiring to distribute or import illegal drugs.

Muntinlupa Mayor Aldrin San Pedro said the city is stepping up its efforts against illegal drugs in the city through a series of police operations and seminars in schools and communities about the dangerous effects of illegal drugs.

He added that the city government has been closely working with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in their anti-illegal drugs programs and projects. – Rhodina Villanueva
