Another cop eyed in family driver's slay
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said yesterday it is investigating reports that another policeman may have been the one who shot a family driver in Barangay Commonwealth last Monday.
Superintendent Franklin Moises Mabanag, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the QCPD, said they received information that a policeman close to Larry Abiola’s employer was the one who killed him.
The husband of Abiola’s employer is reportedly a member of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force. Police did not identify Abiola’s employer, pending investigation.
“The suspect reportedly saw the husband crying and become problematic (because of his jealousy) and took the matter into his own hands,” Mabanag told reporters in an interview.
Abiola was taking his employer’s three children to school when he was ambushed and shot. The gunman then walked away from the scene, witnesses said. Mabanag said they also checked the guns owned by the husband, but none were a .45 caliber handgun, the type used in the killing of Albiola.
Albiola’s sister earlier told policemen her brother received threatening text messages supposedly from the employer’s husband, telling the victim to “stay away from my wife.”
However, the supposed text messages sent last October had been erased from the victim’s cellular phone. – Reinir Padua
