Sucat Road's trees won't die from trimming - Bernabe
Manila, Philippines -- Paranaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. defended the trimming of trees along Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Parañaque yesterday, which critics said left the trees with too little foliage.
Calling himself an agriculture enthusiast, he assured the public that the idea is to merely stop the trees from growing too big and blocking the light from the streetlamps at night.
“Normal annual trimming iyan that we have been doing for the past four years,” he explained, adding that not all of the leaves and branches were cut or trimmed.
Bernabe made the assurance after motorists noticed that trees on the center island of the main thoroughfare formerly known as Sucat Road have been trimmed again.
“We still have rains that will help keep the trees alive,” he said, pointing out that those who did the trimming – the Office of the Mayor’s beautification committee – know what they are doing. – Michael Punongbayan
