Valenzuela trader gunned down in heist

Robbers shot dead a businessman in front of his home at midnight Thursday in Valenzuela City.

Police identified the victim as Antonio Ane, 46, a resident of Sitio Sulok in Barangay Ugong, who died on the spot from two bullet wounds.

Senior Police Officer 2 Angeles Miranda said the victim was waylaid by at least two unidentified suspects while he was about to enter the gate of his house before midnight Thursday.

Witnesses told investigators that they overheard the victim shouting invectives at the suspects, which was followed by a commotion. Moments later two shots were heard.

They quickly fled after the incident.

A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), led by Chief Inspector Albert Arturo, recovered beside Ane’s body two shells for a .45 caliber pistol.

The victim’s wallet, which reportedly contained more than P50,000, was taken by the gunmen, police said. The local police were still investigating the case yesterday.       – Jerry Botial, Pete Laude
