Gang members 'fired at will' at father, daughter
An arrested member of the “Waray-Waray” robbery gang told police yesterday they opened fire at two separate vehicles carrying a father and his daughter and a police official during a shootout with police in Parañaque last Dec. 5.
However, Rico Malmis, 50, alias Kalag, did not say that his gang deliberately killed Alfonso de Vera and his seven-year-old daughter, Lia Allana, and wounded Superintendent Eleuterio Gutierrez.
In a statement taken by Parañaque policemen at Manila police headquarters, Malmis said the gang fired at will at anybody, including moving vehicles on Sampaguita St., United Parañaque Subdivision 4.
“After hearing the exchange of gunfire, me and my companions rushed out of the vehicle while holding our issued firearms,” he said.
“My companions opened fire at the vehicle following us and another vehicle moving towards our direction.”
Police said the vehicle behind the gang’s white Revo was a Starex van driven by Gutierrez.
The other vehicle described by Malmis as approaching them was a white Crosswind van driven by De Vera, who was with his daughter Lia Allana, police added. – Non Alquitran
