No more taped guns for Quezon City cops

-

The Quezon City police chief and his men will no longer seal their service firearms with tape, which is done to discourage indiscriminate firing, come Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

“We want to tell everybody that with or without their firearms taped, Quezon City cops are trusted and denounce any form of indiscriminate firing,” Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula said.

In a statement, Gatdula said the Quezon City Police District has nothing against the tradition. Senior Inspector Dorothy Du, chief of the QCPD public information office, said no Quezon City policeman has so far been involved in cases of indiscriminate firing during the holidays since Gatdula assumed his post as QCPD director.

“While we do away with the usual gun taping, all Quezon City police officers and gun owners who will be caught firing their guns indiscriminately will be dealt with accordingly,” Gatdula said.

Du said policemen firing their guns indiscriminately during the holidays could still be found out by traces of gunpowder burns in the firearm’s muzzle.

She said they were also waiting for response from the community on any possible case of indiscriminate firing.

Meanwhile, Gatdula also said the QCPD firing range at Camp Karingal is open to gun owners who want to engage in target shooting.

“I enjoin the public particularly gun owners to be responsible. I also call on everyone to report to the police any case of indiscriminate firing,” he said.       Reinir Padua
