Members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) fraternity staged their yearly “Oblation Run” at the University of the Philippines’ Diliman campus in Quezon City yesterday, this time to express their opposition to Charter change and call on the public to protect the environment.
Wearing a bonnet and mask, around 30 men sprinted through Palma Hall, waving placards and handing out long-stemmed red roses and mercury-free thermometers to onlookers.
“As a tradition, APO carries several issues during the run. This is not just a parade of naked men running. We raise issues and raise people’s awareness.” said AJ Verceles, APO-Eta Chapter Grand Chancellor.
Verceles added that “this year, we even raised temperatures” in partnership with the Health Care Without Harm-Southeast Asia (HCWH), which is initiating a mercury watch campaign to push for mercury-free thermometers and other equipment. – Katherine Adraneda
