Businesswoman gunned down in Paco

- Nestor Etolle -

A 42-year-old businesswoman was ambushed by a gunman while inside her car in Paco, Manila Monday night.

Janet Singh, a Filipina married to an Indian national, of Palm Village in Makati City, was declared dead on arrival at the Medical Center Manila from several gunshot wounds in the body.

Investigations conducted by PO3 Rommel del Rosario showed that at around 10:10 p.m. the victim left her mini-grocery at the corner of Tanque street and United Nations Avenue in Paco and boarded her black Honda CRV as she prepared to go home.

It was then that an armed man appeared and repeatedly shot Singh. The gunman also shot at the victim’s brother, Gerard, when he ran out of the mini-grocery to aid his sister. The gunman then went back to Singh and fired more shots before fleeing on a motorcycle driven by a companion. Gerard rushed his sister to the hospital.

Chief Inspector Alberto Peco, who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District, ruled out robbery as a motive since the suspects did not take away any valuables from the victim.

“The gunman wanted only to finish off his target, He fled after seeing that the victim will not survive,” Peco told The STAR.

The victim reportedly owns several businesses, mostly restaurants and groceries.

Peco said he has invited the victim’s husband to shed light on the incident, but the husband has not responded as of yesterday.
