Man with grenade walks into motel
A plumber landed in jail after a hand grenade was found inside his bag as he was about to enter a motel in Quezon City last Saturday night.
Roland Peralta, 30, from Pulilan, Bulacan, underwent inquest proceedings yesterday morning for charges of illegal possession of explosives under Republic Act 8294.
The police said it was still not clear why Peralta was carrying a hand grenade when he entered the Day to Day Apartelle on Edsa in Barangay Immaculate Conception.
Inspector Arnulfo Franco, chief of the Explosives and Ordnance Division of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), classified the explosive device as a fragmentation hand grenade model MK2.
“It is a live explosive device, meaning it could explode any time,” Franco said in an interview.
A report from the QCPD-Station 10 stated that Peralta was about to enter the motel at around 8:25 p.m. last Saturday when security guard Manuelito Arsenas found the grenade in Peralta’s bag.
Arsenas then called up the police to verify if it was really an explosive device. “They then informed us about the incident for us to certify if it was really a hand grenade,” Franco said. – Reinir Padua
