Muntinlupa declares Dec. 4 as Urban Poor Solidarity Day
Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro has approved an ordinance passed by the city council declaring Dec. 4 or every first Thursday of December as Urban Poor Solidarity Day in the city.
The ordinance is in line with the yearly nationwide celebration of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week from Dec. 2 to 8 under Presidential Proclamation 367, issued in 1989.
The observance aims to foster unity, dialogue and cooperation among government agencies, non-government agencies and the urban poor communities as to launching specific programs and projects for the alleviation of urban poverty.
The Muntinlupa City government recently organized the People’s Organizations Convention and gathered all urban poor associations to tackle issues confronting their sector.
The councilors who signed Ordinance 08-064 were Allan Rey Camilon, Ma. Luisa Echavez, Amy Patdu-Labios, Melchor Teves, Ike dela Rea, Marita Calalang, Lito Arevalo, Luvi Constantino, Mamerto Sevilla Jr., Vergel Ulanday, Robert Abas, Rey Bulay, Cezar Pagkalinawan and Dann Henry Teves.
Earlier, the city government said it will allocate a much bigger fund to purchase land for socialized housing projects for the poor next year. – Rhodina Villanueva
