Taguig opens new public cemetery

- Rhodina Villanueva -

The Taguig City government reported that a new public cemetery with modern facilities would be opened in Barangay Hagonoy to exclusively serve city residents.

Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said the Serenity Park would be opened to the public in time for All Saints’ Day today. It is be patterned after premiere burial grounds such as the Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio.

Tiñga said the new cemetery would primarily accommodate underprivileged Taguig residents, who want a more decent burial for their dead relatives, but cannot afford the prices of private memorial lots.

“Losing a loved one is already painful but what’s worse is when one can’t give a proper burial due to financial difficulties. With this new public cemetery, we help ease their pain,” Tiñga said.

Serenity Park is located at a 1.5-hectare land in Barangay Hagonoy, which will have six buildings that would serve as apartment type memorial vaults and ossuaries that can accommodate the remains of more than 2,000 persons.

A separate columbarium for the ashes of cremated remains will also be available. The public cemetery can hold up to 15,000 remains.

Aside from the niches, the new memorial park will also have private viewing chapels, a mortuary or morgue, and a spacious parking lot. It will also offer funeral services to Taguig’s poor residents at very affordable prices.
