Jamby wants aunt's estate distributed

- Michael Punongbayan -

Sen. Ma. Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal asked the Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) yesterday to divide her late billionaire aunt’s estate among 13 legal heirs.

In a motion filed yesterday through her lawyer Ernesto Francisco Jr., Madrigal said Judge Oscar Pimentel should now name an administrator who will do an inventory on the assets of the senator’s aunt Doña Consuelo “Chito” Madrigal.

After the inventory, the debts and taxes should be paid off in preparation for the division of assets among the legal heirs according to the rules of legal succession.

Sen. Madrigal is expected to inherit one-seventh of the late Madrigal matriarch’s estate since she has a surviving husband who is entitled to both conjugal property and legal inheritance.

Sen. Madrigal wants the court to include her among those who can be named as administrator as well as Felicia R. Ravago, a lawyer and a member of the New York state bar, or Miguel L. Fernandez, president of the Books for the Barangay Foundation Inc.

Aside from Sen. Madrigal, he identified the late Madrigal matriarch’s legal heirs as Manuel Collantes, the surviving husband; the estate of Pacita Madrigal Gonzalez; Maria Luisa Madrigal Vasquez, a surviving sister; and Jose Vicente M. de Leon and Mary Joy de Leon-Rufino, the children of a sister of the decedent, Macaria Madrigal de Leon.

Also included in the list were Maria Susana Bayot-Ortigas, Vicente M. Bayot, and Francisco M. Bayot Jr. who are children of a sister of Doña Chito, Josefina Madrigal Bayot, who has also already died; Maria Susana Madrigal-Eduque and Maria Rosa Ana Madrigal-Gelb who, along with Sen. Madrigal, are children of a brother of Doña Chito, Antonio P. Madrigal, who is also already dead.

Two other children of a brother of Doña Chito, Jose Maria P. Madrigal, also deceased, identified as Vicente A.S. Madrigal and Gerardo A.S. Madrigal, were also named as legal heirs.
