Low pressure area to bring rains in some areas of the country

A low-pressure area spotted yesterday east of Northern Mindanao is expected to bring rains over some parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said. 

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned the public in the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao against possible flashfloods and landslides.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pag­asa said the LPA was estimated at 290 kms. east of Northern Mindanao and is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Pagasa, however, said the LPA is unlikely to become a storm.

“Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Min­danao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers,” Pagasa said. – Helen Flores

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast and east would prevail over Northern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas would be moderate to rough, Pagasa said.

Elsewhere, winds would be light to moderate coming from the east and southeast with slight to moderate seas, it added.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said the shallow low pressure area spotted at 390 kms west of Metro Manila dissipated yesterday afternoon. - Helen Flores
