Beautician nabbed for illegal cosmetic surgery
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents arrested a beautician who allegedly performed cosmetic surgery without a license.
Deputy Director for Intelligence Services Ruel Lasala identified the suspect as Roderick Melchor, alias “Bambi,” a resident of Barangay Cembo, Makati City .
Melchor was arrested by operatives of the NBI Criminal Intelligence Division (CID) last Oct. 13 at the 5J’s beauty salon in the same barangay while he was about to perform surgery on an NBI asset who posed as a client.
The entrapment was an offshoot of a complaint filed by Roldan Paredes, alias “Gracia,” for alleged illegal practice of medicine and serious physical injuries against the suspect.
In his complaint, Paredes said Melchor injected “elecant oil,” a silicone variant, into his breasts and hips to improve his figure. However, Paredes contracted an infection that required hospitalization and corrective surgery.
Professional Regulation Commission records showed that Melchor was not a licensed physician. He was presented for inquest at the Makati city prosecutor’s office for violating Republic Act 2382, which governs the practice of medicine in the country. – Sandy Araneta
