CIDG rescues driver, helper from hijack suspects

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) rescued Wednesday a truck driver and his helper from two men who hijacked their delivery van in Cainta, Rizal on Tuesday.

CIDG director Chief Superintendent Raul Castañeda said Oscar Molina, accompanied by helper Andome Eliseo, was driving a 40-footer van loaded with noodles and biscuits bound for Leyte when armed men flagged them down at the Cainta junction on Tuesday.

The CIDG, informed by truck owner Jeffrey Go of the hijacking, mobilized its anti-hijacking group. The police spotted the van at the border of Parañaque City and Cavite Tuesday night, but the suspects shook them off.

On Wednesday morning, the police spotted the van in Bacoor, Cavite and gave chase. The pursuit ended in Muntinlupa City, where the CIDG arrested suspects Virgilio Estrella and Abelardo Palma, both of Mareck Subdivision in Cainta.

The CIDG found Molina and Eliseo gagged, blindfolded and bound with shoelaces inside the van. – Jaime Laude
