Spoiled chicken meat seized in Tondo

The police seized early yesterday 20 kilos of decaying chicken meat during a surprise inspection of an illegal flea market in Tondo, Manila.

Together with officials of the National Meat Inspection Service, Tondo and Binondo police officers caught Greg Mercado, Hilda Santos and Melencia Tobias selling spoiled dressed chicken along C.M. Recto Avenue between Juan Luna and Ylaya streets.

Binondo police chief Superintendent Nelson Yabut said there are reports that owners of roadside eateries are the ones who buy the spoiled meat.

The vendors will be charged with violation of the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines, while the seized chicken meat will be donated to a crocodile breeding farm.   – Nestor Etolle
