Las Piñas to put up mini-parks in each barangay
The Las Piñas City government has launched a pilot area to signal the start of a drive to establish a mini-green park in each of the city’s 20 barangays.
Mayor Vergel Aguilar said that with the continuing efforts of concerned local authorities, this pilot area will soon be developed so that immediately the 20 mini-green parks will be realized. These mini-green parks will be complemented with trees planted along the stretch of Alabang–Zapote road and all other open spaces.
Aguilar said the development of the mini-parks in all barangays will boost Las Piñas’ image of being a clean and green city.
“Not only fruit-bearing trees and ornamental plants will be grown in the green parks but vegetables as well such as malunggay, pechay, eggplants, and some herbal plants that can serve as medicines and an alternative source of nutrition for the residents,” Aguilar said.
To ensure continuing implementation and success of the program, the mayor has created a council on environment and greenbelt area project chaired by his wife, former mayor Imelda Aguilar. The council will monitor and supervise greening activities in the city.
Aguilar also announced his plan to put up a plant nursery and botanical garden, which will be cared for and nurtured by students, parents and teachers in the private and public elementary and high schools. – Rhodina Villanueva
