QC cops seize 4 tons of stolen copper wire

-

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) recently confiscated four tons of copper wire, worth P4 million, from a van on its way to Barangay Del Monte recently.

Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., chief of the QCPD’s theft and robbery section, said the wires were supposed to be delivered to ILS Enterprises, owned by Irene Sibal.

The police said they intercepted the van (XGK-122) last Wednesday after they saw its driver, Edwin Parquerino, driving recklessly. They then saw the 32 sacks of copper wire through the van’s open door.

“The wires were bought (for P300 a kilo) from scavengers who steal them from power lines on the street,” Pedrozo said, adding that the wires will be resold at a higher price.

Sibal, Parquerino, and helpers Adrian Adtoon and Rolando John Mallari are facing charges under Republic Act 7832 for pilferage of power transmission lines.
