Grenade blast damages QC engineer’s house

A grenade blast damaged the house of an engineer in Quezon City Sunday night over what police investigators believe is a land dispute among relatives.

The fragmentation hand grenade landed in a pile of trash outside the house of Benjamin Ferrer in Barangay Greater Lagro, and the explosion damaged a room still under construction.

Superintendent Raymundo Equibal, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 5, said no one was hurt during the incident.

Police investigators are eyeing a land dispute behind the explosion. Equibal said Ferrer was recently been awarded a title to a property in Isabela province. However, some relatives reportedly were not able to get their share of the property.

Equibal, however, said the details remain vague as Ferrer has not elaborated on this matter. He said Ferrer was sleeping inside his house when the grenade was lobbed.

Ferrer’s neighbor, Glenda Rillena, said she saw two men on a red Honda XRM motorcycle (DP-6131), one of whom lobbed the grenade. Witnesses said the suspects, upon reaching a nearby street, left the motorcycle behind and boarded to a maroon Tamaraw FX.   – Reinir Padua
