2 tabloids lose P.2 M to robbers

Six armed men robbed the offices of tabloids Remate and Tiktik in Port Area, Manila early morning yesterday and ran off with at least P186,000 cash.

Police said the suspects, armed with handguns and a shotgun, barged into the tabloids’ offices along 20th street at around 2:15 a.m. and held up their night-shift employees.

At gunpoint, the suspects took the P160,000 collection of Tiktik employees Fernando dela Cruz and Reynaldo dela Cruz, then held up Remate employees Ricardo Campos, Pepito Cadungon and Nicetas Dizon and took at least P20,000.

After the heist, the suspects escaped on two motorcycles. The suspects left behind a third motorcycle, a black Kawasaki Barako (ZP-4305), after it developed engine trouble. The police recovered a homemade shotgun with one bullet and two pairs of slippers from the stalled motorcycle. No one was hurt in the incident, police said.

The police are preparing sketches of the suspects even as they try to identify the owner of the recovered motorcycle through the Land Transportation Office.         – Nestor Etolle
