A barangay watchman shot dead Saturday a drunken man who was creating trouble in Barangay Malanday, Marikina City.
Reynaldo Pelito, 28, sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen and right thigh. He was declared dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.
Volunteer watchman Jose Cabacang surrendered to responding policemen and turned over his weapon, a .38 caliber revolver.
Marikina City police chief Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr. said Pelito was monitored drinking with some friends since early afternoon Saturday.
After having a drink too many, Pelito became rowdy at about 8:20 p.m. and started creating trouble in the area, prompting bystanders to summon Cabacang.
Ramos said Cabacang accosted Pelito but the latter refused to be pacified and continue shouting invectives at everyone. Cabacang then pulled out his gun and opened fire at Pelito.
Ramos said they filed murder charges against Cabacang before inquest prosecutor Elena Aguilar of the Marikina City prosecutor’s office. - Non Alquitran
