Makati launches commuter safety zones

The Makati City police and the city government’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) have launched 24-hour “commuter safety zones” in the city.

Makati police chief Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said five such zones were identified in the city’s business district: the intersections of Ayala and Gil Puyat Avenues, Makati Avenue and Gil Puyat, Pasong Tamo and Gil Puyat, and the 6750 building along Ayala Avenue.

Cruz said they initiated the project to protect night shift employees such as call center agents.

He said a team of two policemen and two DPS personnel, with a police car on standby, will patrol the area round the clock and check on commuters who may be victims of robbers or snatchers.
