To meet the needs of pregnant women in Parañaque City, local officials announced that the construction of a new lying-in clinic in Barangay San Martin De Porres will soon start.
Local officials, by using the Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban Heart) to determine the quality of health service in various areas in the city, found that Barangay San Martin De Porres in District 2 had a high home delivery rate, and chose it as the site for the new lying-in facility.
Mayor Florencio Bernabe said the purpose of the lying-in’s construction is to meet the requirements of Resolution No. 200880102 of the 7th Health Sector Agenda, which states that all births should be attended by a skilled medical practitioner at a health facility, a birthing home or a hospital.
The construction of the lying-in clinic was made possible through the efforts of the Department of Health (DOH) central office, the World Health Organization Kobe Center, the Development Academy of the Philippines, and the city government.
Bernabe noted that a P1.5 million seed money was provided by the World Health Organization Kobe Center together with the DOH so that construction activities can proceed.
There are already two existing lying-in clinics in District 1. One is located at Barangay Tambo while another can be found in Barangay Baclaran. – Rhodina Villanueva
