MMDA cool to lifting number coding scheme
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) “still sees no compelling reason” to lift or modify the Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), better known as the number coding scheme, implemented in the metropolis.
MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno said a proposal to exempt private vehicles carrying three or more passengers from UVVRP in order to encourage car pooling is good, but noted that a motorist can simply tell a traffic enforcer he had three or more passengers who got off just before he was flagged down.
“It can be studied. We will consider it. Maybe if they (the passengers) all go to the same office,” Nacianceno told The STAR.
He said they remain open to ideas so long as they are presented with details or supporting studies and statistics. – Michael Punongbayan
