Eleven high school students, still wearing their uniforms, were caught smoking marijuana in Quezon City Wednesday night.
The 11 students – 10 boys and a girl – were taken into custody by the police after they were spotted at around 7 p.m. holding a pot session at a vacant lot along Scout Ybardolaza in Barangay Sacred Heart, according to Superintendent Aspirinio Cabula, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 10.
Cabula said the students, aged 14 to 17 years old, study at the Quezon City High School, which is also located along Scout Ybardolaza.
The apprehension was prompted by a report received by the police from a resident. Cabula said the school principal later said one of the apprehended students lives in the area.
The police recovered from one of the students – who appeared to be the “leader” of the group – a teabag of marijuana, Cabula told The STAR in an interview.
The police official also said they noticed burnt joints of marijuana in the area.
Cabula said he released the students to the school principal yesterday morning after the latter vouched to “take responsibility over the (apprehended) students.”
He said they earlier planned to turn over the students to the Department of Social Welfare and Development before the school principal appeared and said the school would be the one to monitor them.
Cabula said they would just regularly monitor the school and its surroundings to prevent similar incidents.
He also they are now questioning the student caught with a teabag of marijuana to know where he got the illegal substance.
