Customs officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) confiscated 19.3 million Japanese yen (approximately P8 million) from a Japanese national who failed to declare the money he brought into the country Tuesday.
Customs collector Tess Roque said she received information from the Anti-Money Laundering Council regarding incidents involving the alleged importation of 10 million to 15 million yen each time Shimokawa Tomohide and Ramon Akagishi arrive in the country.
At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Tomohide and Akagishi arrived at NAIA and were asked if they had anything to declare. Akagishi said he only has 5,000 yen while Tomohide brought out P4,000 from his pocket.
