Cop shoots, hurts colleague in Marikina

- Non Alquitran -

Professional jealousy drove a Marikina City policeman to shoot and seriously hurt his colleague at the lobby of the police headquarters in the city Monday.

Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo de la Cruz vowed to conduct summary dismissal proceedings against Police Officer 3 Ferdinand Brubio, 39, who admitted shooting colleague SPO1 Ronaldo Milla, 31.

De la Cruz also directed Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr., Marikina City police chief to file frustrated homicide and direct assault charges against Brubio, who is now languishing at the local police detention center.

Milla sustained a gunshot wound in the right side of the body while another bullet hit his right hand, and exited to his shoulder and the slug landed in his right jaw.

Doctors at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center are still locked in the process of recovering the slug at Milla’s jaw.

Both Brubio and Milla are assigned at the station’s anti-illegal drugs special operations task force (SAIDSOTF) of the Marikina City police.

Initial investigation showed that the shooting was triggered by jealousy in their accomplishment in the drive against drug pushers in Marikina City. Ramos said Brubio has long been working for the arrest of Barangay Fortune-based drug pusher, Eligio Muyco, which only took Milla a few days to neutralize.

Brubio allegedly beat up Muyco when Milla and his companions brought him to their SAIDSOTF office.

Superintendent Carlito Briones, SAIDSOTF chief reprimanded Brubio for hurting Muyco which infuriated the cop.

Thinking that it was Milla who reported the incident to Briones, Brubio went out to the lobby to confront the surprised Milla.

According to Brubio, he shot Milla after the latter shouted invectives at him. However, when interviewed in his hospital bed, Milla said he didn’t know why Brubio shot him.

Brubio surrendered to fellow cops right after the shooting. He, too, turned over the fatal weapon, a 9mm caliber automatic pistol.

Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two spent shells from a 9mm caliber pistol in the site of the incident.

Brubio joined other inmates at the detention center of the local police.
