Muntinlupa starts traffic plan

-

Officials of Muntinlupa City yesterday started implementing the traffic re-routing plan to improve traffic at the Alabang viaduct area.

Demetrio Alvarez, chief of the Muntinlupa Traffic and Management Bureau, said the new traffic scheme is needed to manage the passenger buses and jeepneys that pass through the Alabang viaduct.

Alvarez said the provincial buses will have to exit through Corporate Avenue near the new Filinvest tollgate of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) while Metro Manila buses will pass through the viaduct and exit at the old Alabang tollgate where the buses could load and unload their passengers.

“A number of traffic personnel were already deployed to assist or guide motorists in the area,” Alvarez said.

There are at least 3,000 buses and jeepneys that use the route daily.

He said the move is also in line with their objective to decongest the area of vehicles with Alabang being recently transformed into a discipline zone.

A discipline zone, a project of the Philippine National Police in coordination with the different local government units, is an area where stricter rules are imposed on drivers and vendors apart from getting rid of criminal elements.

Under the plan, a no nonsense police enforcement of existing laws and ordinances will be implemented in order to bring back order at the Alabang viaduct. – Rhodina Villanueva
