Ex-cop with four outstanding warrants arrested

- Jerry Botial -

A twice-dismissed cop with outstanding arrest warrants for at least four criminal charges was arrested by intelligence agents of the Northern Police District (NPD) in Valenzuela City yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango, NPD chief, identified the suspect as Rogelio Tizon Jr., 33, formerly with the NPD.

Tizon was collared by Senior Police Officer 3 Manuel Panlaque, PO3s Alain Chapoco, Alexander Ibe, Vergel Nicolas, PO2 Arnel de Guzman and PO1 Cristobal Duque at around 2 p.m. in the offices of the Fireforce Security and Detective Services in Barangay Malinta, where he was working as a security inspector.

NPD investigation chief Superintendent Augusto Mateo said Tizon has four confirmed unserved arrest warrants on various charges, including robbery with homicide issued last March 25 by Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina, who recommended no bail.

The other warrants issued against Tizon are for robbery, issued Jan. 15, 2007 by Caloocan RTC Judge Eleonor Kwong, with bail recommended at P100,000; for grave threats, issued by Caloocan Metropolitan Trial Court Judge Lorenza Bordios Paculdo on Nov. 29, 2006; and for arbitrary detention, issued by Caloocan MTC Judge Josephine Advento Vito Cruz on June 29, 2007.

PO2 Arnel de Guzman told The STAR Tizon was dismissed when he had gone absent without official leave. It was not clear why and how he was able to find work in the Middle East (Dubai and Qatar) with the arrest warrants against him.

When he returned to the country, Tizon found himself implicated in a robbery case perpetrated by the Baratas Group, led by another former policeman, Ruben Baratas, last assigned with the headquarters service group of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Tizon has denied involvement with the group and the allegations. He was, however, identified by witnesses in a police lineup in Navotas.

NPD sources said Tizon managed to get himself reinstated early this year but failed to report for work, allegedly because of the several arrest warrants he faced, and was again dismissed.

Tizon is currently detained at the District Intelligence and Detective Management Division (DIDMD) detention cell.
