Anti-illegal drugs TF to man Manila public schools

-

The city government of Manila will deploy anti-illegal drugs marshalls who will apprehend students and other persons involved in the use, distribution or sale of illegal drugs in school premises.

Mayor Alfredo Lim announced the fielding of special anti-illegal drugs marshalls in all public schools in Manila starting June 10 to make sure that students are protected from the drug problem and that these learning institutions remain “drug-free.” Lim is scheduled to spearhead today the launching of Drug Free Marshalls and the Anti-Graft and Corruption Forum at the Ramon Magsaysay High School in España, Manila.

A special task force shall be organized for this purpose to be composed of school personnel, student leaders and Parent-Teachers Association officials.

“The drug problem is a scourge in our society that we will always try to shield and protect our children from. Ang kampanya dito ay hindi natin titigilan,” Lim said.

Dr. Ma. Luisa Quiñones, schools division superintendent, said the creation of the special task force is in accordance with the provisions of the Dangerous Drug Act or RA No. 9165.

Lim said special anti-drug units shall be organized in all city schools and trained to assist in the detection and apprehension of violators of the Dangerous Drugs Act within the school premises.

School principals and chairmen of the peace and order committee in their respective schools will come in full force to be part of the campaign to rid Manila City schools of drugs problem by signing a manifesto signifying their commitment to go all-out against drugs.

Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) chairman Anselmo Avenido Jr., Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales, and Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC) chairperson Constancia de Guzman will give lectures on drug prevention and control, peace and order and anti-corruption in government, respectively.  – Sandy Araneta
