Aguilar cracks down on overcharging tricycle drivers

Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar has ordered the strict implementation of an ordinance regulating the fare that can be charged by tricycle drivers.

Aguilar issued the directive following reports that some tricycle drivers are charging more than what is indicated in the government-approved fare matrix, totally ignoring the mandatory fare discount for students and senior citizens.

He has appealed to public transport drivers and operators concerned to be considerate to the public, especially to students and senior citizens, by charging them in accordance with what is prescribed in the fare matrix.

Aguilar, however, cited tricycle drivers plying the Verdant Acres Subdivision route for giving fare discounts to students.

Aguilar personally appealed to the respective tricycle drivers’ associations in Gatchalian Subdivision (Manuyo II) and Manuela Subdivision to comply with the fare rate.

“These are crucial times in our economy. All we can do is make it a little lighter for our people and help them cope with the day-to-day expenses,” he said.

Aguilar also requested Vice Mayor Henry Medina to meet with the city’s Tricycle Regulatory Unit and with officers of all tricycle operators’ and drivers’ associations for a comprehensive assessment of the fare matrix implementation to ensure that the riding public will benefit from it. – Rhodina Villanueva
