Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. assured residents yesterday that the city government is undertaking appropriate security and traffic control measures to ensure the safety and convenience of students once the school year starts on June 10.
He said the city government will field 180 traffic enforcers as early as 6 a.m. to facilitate vehicular traffic along Aurora Boulevard and Commonwealth, Congressional, Quezon and E. Rodriguez Avenues.
The city government has also deputized the city’s barangay public officers to man traffic movement on secondary and inner roads, as well as within the school periphery during the opening of classes.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will field police officers to patrol areas near schools.
QCPD chief Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula said they have coordinated with school officials to make sure that they put up their own roving patrols to deter criminals from preying on students.
Belmonte has also assured parents that public schools in the city will have enough classrooms, teachers and textbooks when classes open next month. – Perseus Echeminada
