GSIS launches voice-activated service
Members and pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) need no longer go to its offices to apply for a loan, inquire about their pension or renew their active status.
The GSIS formally launched Friday the GSIS Voice Activated Processing System (G-VAPS), a program that GSIS president and general manager Winston Garcia said uses telecommunications facilities and voice biometrics technology.
“This is a homegrown program. Not a single foreign consultant was hired since it used its own IT services in GSIS,” Garcia said. “We developed this ourselves. This is a system that is first in the world harnessing the voice biometrics of every member.”
All the G-VAPS needs to verify the identity of a member or pensioner during a transaction is a voiceprint – just like a fingerprint, each person’s voice has a set of measurable characteristics that is unique to the individual and can be used for identification.
To use the G-VAPS, members and pensioners need to call the GSIS Teleservice domestic toll free number (1-800-10-847-4747 for Smart and PLDT, and 1-800-8-847-4747 for Globe numbers). The toll-free feature only applies to domestic calls.
By simply following a set of instructions, members and pensioners can avail of GSIS services.
Enrolling in the G-VAPS is optional, as members and pensioners can still use the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (G-W@PS) kiosk at any GSIS office or selected government offices.
