Rape charges filed vs factory worker

-

A factory worker was charged with rape yesterday before the Manila regional trial court for victimizing a 14-year-old girl six years ago. The Department of Justice filed the criminal charges before the Manila RTC against Leonor Igsoc, 21, of 619 Asuncion Street, Binondo, Manila. Igsoc was charged with rape in relation to RA 7610, otherwise known as the Special Protection of Children against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

No bail was recommended for the suspect’s provisional liberty. The criminal information was filed by State Prosecutor Anjanette De Leon-Ortile.

Investigations conducted by the Violence Against Women and Children Division of the National Bureau of Investigation showed that Igsoc was allegedly able to rape the victim at a party on Feb. 3, 2002 by “spiking” a glass of soda she was drinking. The victim is now a co-employee of the suspect.

According to the victim, she woke up naked beside Igsoc, when she roused him up from sleep. The victim told the investigators that Igsoc forced her again on two separate occasions to have sex with him at a downtown inn.

The suspect warned the victim that he would reveal to their co-employees what transpired between them if she refused to have sex with him.

On the other hand, the victim only told her mother about the incidents when she found out she was already almost three months pregnant.         – Sandy Araneta
