Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri said yesterday that the city government will continue to create job-generating projects to fight poverty.
The mayor made the statement after the Labor and Industrial Relations Office, through the Caloocan City Manpower Training Center (CCMTC), conducted its Technical Course Exhibit Caravan for residents of the first district.
Around 1,000 CCMTC trainees demonstrated their acquired technical knowledge to the residents, particularly those belonging to the informal sector.
Echiverri said aside from giving free appliance repair, livelihood demonstrations, cosmetology and reflexology services to the poor, the caravan also encouraged residents to enroll themselves in the “quick” courses offered by the city government and fully accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
He added that LIRO can provide apprenticeship, entrepreneurial and employment support to the graduates of the six-month courses.
“The added earnings would soften the impact of higher prices of rice and other basic needs,” Echiverri said.
LIRO chief Dante Esteban said Echiverri was able to significantly lower the unemployment rate in the city through the continuous conduct of non-formal training and other livelihood programs.
Esteban said residents who may want to avail themselves of the city government’s employment program can go to the LIRO office. – Pete Laude
