Maynilad gives water to Navotas urban poor

-

For 20 years, poor Navotas residents used to wait or walk far to have water. Soon, they can enjoy having water right from their own faucet.

The Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI) and the local government of Navotas yesterday announced the inauguration of a project that is expected to benefit 1,500 families in two communities in the city.

This after the MWSI completed the laying of 630-meter pipelines on North Bay Blvd. to provide individual connections to households in Sitio Puting Bato and Sitio Sto. Niño.

Maynilad said that the project was implemented in response to the petition of the Nagkakaisang Buklod na Samahan ng mga Taga Sitio Puting Bato at Sto. Niño for a reliable water supply.

The water firm said before, the community’s 10,500 residents relied on water deliveries, which sold at P5 per container. Residents also used to fetch water from a public faucet some distance away.

Maynilad’s assistant vice president for customer service Edna Paguntalan said the bulk-selling scheme granted to Sitio Puting Bato and Sitio Sto. Niño charges the lowest rate, with an additional 20 percent discount if each household maintains its consumption at an average 10 cubic meters a month.

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco thanked Maynilad for connecting communities to its water system.

The project is in line with the initiative of Maynilad’s new owners, DMCI and Metro Pacific, to continue providing good water service even to poor communities in its West Zone concession. – Katherine Adraneda
