Man lands in jail for posing as cop, reporter

-

A man who claimed to be a police officer and a tabloid reporter found himself in jail after he was arrested while waiting to ambush unsuspecting victims in Caloocan City yesterday afternoon.

Superintendent Jose Valencia, Caloocan City’s station investigation and detective management bureau chief, identified the suspect as Nicomedes Amar, 35.

Senior Police Officer 2 Arnold Gonzales, SPO1 Michelle Alcantara, PO3s Renato de Leon and Renato Ablaza and PO2 Ronald Iral were on patrol when they chanced upon Amar at around 2:30 p.m.

Amar, wearing a black jacket marked “police,” was sitting on a blue Honda XRM (ZK-8829) in front of a gas station along Samson Road in Caloocan when the lawmen approached him for verification.

Amar introduced himself as a policeman and also claimed that he was a reporter for a tabloid. The lawmen demanded to see his identification cards, but he failed to show any.

Charges of usurpation of authority were filed against Amar.   – Jerry Botial
