QC cops bust major jueteng gang
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) believes it has busted a major group involved in jueteng operations in the city during a raid Wednesday night wherein 62 workers of the illegal numbers game were arrested.
QCPD director Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula said the 62 workers were arrested during the raid on a house in
Superintendent Constante Agpaoa, commander of the QCPD-Station 6, said the 62 workers belong to the “Bueno Group” reportedly led by George Bueno, who was also arrested during the raid.
Bueno was also said to be the owner of the house that was raided.
According to Agpaoa, the house was being used as a venue for the jueteng draw. He said police recovered coins worth around P5,000 collected by jueteng bettors from all over the city.
“We believe we have paralyzed jueteng operations in the city with this raid,” he told The STAR in an interview.
Agpaoa said that based on lists of bettors recovered during the raid, the group operates in different areas in the city – Novaliches, Fairview, Cubao, Kamuning, Balara and Culiat.
The 62 suspects – jueteng “cabos” and bet collectors – were brought to the QCPD-Station 6 after the raid.
Agpaoa said the suspects face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 or the Illegal Gambling Act.
